The history of tea can be traced back to almost 5000 years ago. However, the health benefits of it were not found a long time ago. Researches over the years have shown how consuming tea can make a difference to your health.

This claim was further strengthened by a recent publication in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology. This study has claimed that drinking tea for at least three times every week can make you live longer. Moreover, this study shows how consuming tea regularly can reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease and increase your life expectancy.

The Study

In this study, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences in Beijing has surveyed 1,00,902 individuals, where none of them has any previous record of stroke, cancer, or heart attack. After that, researchers divided them into two groups –

> Habitual tea drinkers, who consume tea three or more times within a week

> Non-habitual tea drinkers, who had tea less than three times per week

After this classification, they followed-up for almost seven years.

The Results

The finding of this study displays an exciting conclusion. It shows how habitual tea drinkers have a significant health advantage over no-habitual ones. According to this study, regular tea consumers are –

  1. 20% less likely to develop any heart disease
  2. 2. 22% fewer chances of them suffering from a heart attack or stroke
  3. 3. Lastly, 15% less likely to die from any cardiovascular diseases

These statistics were found when the accumulated data from habitual and non-habitual tea drinkers were compared side by side.

Furthermore, this study also shows how regularly consuming tea can prevent disease and increase life expectancy. Additionally, it assesses that a 50-year-old habitual tea drinker is likely to develop any heart disease or suffer a stroke almost 1.5 years later compared to a non-habitual tea drinker.
Moreover, the same person is likely to live 1.26 years more compared to an occasional tea drinker.

The Reason

The researchers are primarily considering flavonoids, particularly tea polyphenols, as the main reason behind this result. This bioactive compound is responsible for protecting you from cardiovascular diseases. Moreover, green tea is a rich source of this compound.

Furthermore, the way green tea is processed it helps in preserving this compound. Therefore, it is more effective in anti-oxidation, which improves the blood lipid profile. Thus, it is useful in cardiovascular protection.
Research like this is promising as they are proving that a cup of tea is more hand just a beverage. It can make you live longer. Furthermore, you can easily find tea online and sip a cup every day for better health.
